The end of the season is nearly upon us and the end of year prizegiving is rapidly approaching. This year the Prizegiving is being held at the same venue as last year on Sunday 27th August at Onslow College Hall at the following times for each grade:
2pm-2:45pm: G7, G8 and G9
3pm-3:45pm: G10 and G11
4pm-5:15pm: G12, G13 and G14

A cold wet wintry Wellington morning was when the Onslow Karamu’s faced the Pukerua Bay Falcon’s. Sideways rain and high winds were pummelling us in the first half. It was really freezing and the Falcon’s slipped five goals ahead of us. We had some shots on goal but we were a bit unlucky and none of them went in. A number of our shots on goal – which were in the air were caught by the wind and blown back to us. By half time, everyone was so cold and the rain was getting worse. After some encouraging words by coaches, Todd Collings and Phil Coyle, we rocked on with the wind and rain at our backs and we gave everything we had.
The Karamu’s worked really hard and with 20 minutes to go we scored our first goal of the game. From there we were hot on attack for most of the game and came back for a five all draw. Both teams had their fair chance of winning the game but with some excellent goalkeeping from both teams a draw was a good result. Player of the day went to Mateja for putting in 120% throughout the whole game and magic moment went to Sophie for scoring her first goals of the session. Big thanks to Luke, Savio and Morgan for filling in, it really helped us out. It was great for the team’s confidence, GO THE MIGHTY KARAMU’S!
Former Onslow Club player, Maggie Jenkins, is off to the U16 World Cup qualifiers in Samoa this August. Maggie played for the Guarkhas (2013 – 2015) while at the Onslow club and also played GOSL. To be selected Maggie attended a NTC camp in the April school holidays, played several games with the U16 coach, Leon Birnie, watching and lastly spent a week in Auckland with other contenders for the U16 team. The team sets off for Samoa on the 2nd August and will play Tonga, Samoa, New Caledonia and Tahiti during the 3 week tournament. The winners of the Oceania qualifiers will get to attend the U17 World cup in Uruguay in 2018. This is Maggie’s second qualifiying tournament. In 2016 as a 14 year she played at the Oceania tournament in Rarotonga and also went to the U17 World Cup in Jordan.

The weather played a big part in last weekends games and I would like to bet there were numerous children who came home covered from head to toe in mud. Quite appropriate really because it was
International Mud Day on Thursday 29th June.

On the last weekend in May OJFC had many teams participating in the Wynton Rufer Tournament and there were plenty of successes, goals and smiles at the event. Please visit the Tournaments page and Photos page for more info.

PLEASE NOTE: Football Central had some trouble sourcing size 6-8 hoodies ordered in the last window. The supplier completely ran out of stock and they are chasing them for more.
Onslow players from the 10th Grade teams – Gurkhas, Tarikakas, Hindipurs and Ravis were ball kids for the North Wellington Senior Men’s First Team in their Wellington Capital Premier League fixture against Wellington Olympic on April 17th. The boys are holding up 6 fingers which represents the number of goals which North Wellington scored to win 6-1.
The players and club were really responsive, engaging with the kids, and the kids enjoyed it.

The kick-off can now go backwards.
The Offside law – the free-kick is now taken from where the offence of offside took place, so the interfering in play, rather from the offside position – referees will understand what that means.
Undershorts/tights must be the same colour as the main colour of the shorts or the lowest part of the shorts. This takes into account shorts with a different coloured hem. Undershirts must still be the same colour as the main colour of the shirt sleeve. Any tape or other material on or covering socks must be the same colour as the sock.
